Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and
gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. They stripped him and
put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns
and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in
front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said. They
spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and
again. After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own
clothes on him. They led him away to crucify him. -Matthew 27:27-31
They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha. It was the third
hour when they crucified him. -Mark 15:21,25
(While He was on the cross, people began to mock Him. But)
Jesus said, "Father,
forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." -Luke 23:34
(Two criminals were hung on either side of Him.) One of the criminals
who hung there hurled insults on him:
"Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" But the other criminal
rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the
same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds
deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." Then he said, "Jesus,
remember me when you come into your kingdom." Jesus answered him, "I tell
you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise." It was now about
the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth
hour, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn
in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I
commit my spirit." When he had said this he breathed his last. -Luke
23:39-46
Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and
upright man, who had not consented to their decision and action. He came
from the Judean town of Arimathea and he was waiting for the kingdom of
God. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body. Then he took it down,
wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in
which no one had yet been laid. -Luke 23:50-53
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary
Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There
was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down
from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
His appearance was like lightning, and
his clothes were white as snow. -Matthew 28:1-3
"The angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you
are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen,
just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.'" -Matthew 28:5,6
